We fight for a livable future. For the air we breathe. For the water we drink. For the places we call home.

But we also fight for a livable present. Polluters have poisoned the air, water, and soil in communities like #Flint or Kashmere Gardens.

#JusticeForKashmereGardens
Polluters poison us because there is money to be saved dumping waste in our backyards rather than disposing of it properly.

Just as companies like ExxonMobil lied about climate science so they could keep selling more oil, coal, and natural gas. They destroy our homes for profit.
They poison the air, sending asthma rates skyrocketing. They poison the water with lead, causing developmental disorders and brain damage. They poison the soil, elevating rates of cancer.

And it should come as no surprise to anybody that...
The worst of this pollution falls on communities of color and poor communities, communities these corporations know don't have the resources to fight back.

But that's where they're wrong. The movement we are building to fight for our future will also fight for our present.
Sunrise Movement stands with any community whose corporate bullies think that their profits matter more than the collective homes of humanity.

Whether they're changing our climate in the short term or in the long term, we stand for our homes against these profiteers.
That's what the #GreenNewDeal is: a new deal for our communities, where people take precedence over profits, where the livability of our future is more important than short term ledgers, where we avert the climate crisis but also rejuvenate the communities ravaged by polluters.
And it's going to take a multiracial, cross-class movement. We have to be there for each other's struggles.

We can't just be a political advocacy group. We have to be a community that stands in solidarity forever.

What happened in Kashmere Gardens happens to all of us.
It's unconscionable. The residents of Kashmere Gardens were judged to be expendable in the pursuit of profit.

No more. This must end. People's lives and the livability of our homes should be our society's number one priority, not corporate profits. This is what we fight for.
For the air we breathe. For the water we drink. For the places we call home. For a livable future for all of us.

We will avert the climate crisis, but we will also turn back the clock on the decades of corporate pillaging of our lives, our environment, and our homes.
