It's up to Trump whether or how to respond. But my suspicion is that, if there were no US casualties, he'll declare victory and both sides will deescalate - in the short term. But Iran will still try to leverage the situation to drive the US out of Iraq ...
... and I suspect they will still plot some kind of more direct vengeance at a time and form of their choosing.
In that respect, we can almost read this as a feint/diversion by Iran, to draw off the immediate threat of US escalation while they play a longer, very different game.
My guess is that this is what the Iranians very much want us to think:
What to do? Well, play along for now, by pretending that honor has been served. But don't take our eye off the ball. Because this isn't over. It's just started.
Of course, now I have even more reason (as if I needed another) for not going anywhere near a Trump property in the future.
Then again, it's Trump, so six months from now he could be staging a "historic" summit meeting with Khamenei in Doha (a la Kim Jong-un), with US and Iranian flags arrayed behind them. I sure hope not.
