tried to purge most of the discord servers i'm in to de-clutter and the server list still doesn't fit entirely on screen
god i miss irc
like with irc you'd have a community in a channel and they'd maybe have one or two offshoots if it was large. conversations just tended to flow and if it went off topic then whatever
but with discord every channel fits far less by default *and* everyone has to have their own entire set of general, off topic, serious, whatever else. so instead of a small number of channels about one thing you have 30 servers that all have 10 channels about the same shit
not to pick on any one place in particular but as an example

announcements and rules (both things that could have just been irc channel topics except topics in discord are beyond worthless), then general, gaming, computers, etc
or this one where the channel list is so large it doesn't even *fit* on my 1920x1080 screen!
another common problem: one concept split out into multiple channels. you can show things off but you can't discuss them and vice versa. why even bother
part of it is that discord has no moderation. in irc you can mute people (+m-v or even just +b) if shit needs to shut up. on discord? nope. you can make a role for that i guess if you don't mind it affecting every (or most) channel
irc also offered the ability to ban people in a simple way, and the blessed tool of kicking

someone needs to shut up now? kick them. often they'd autorejoin but it'd print out a reason for them and also act as a wake-up call
kicking someone in discord is largely invisible to everyone involved and bans are even moreso, by default removing messages

and the only way to see what the 'reason' was is checking audit logs (!!)

there are no "wake up slap" options for moderation, it's nuke or nothin
you also do not have any visibility by default of role changes (equiv to modes in irc) other than, maybe, the name color / online list changing out from under you. love to click everything to find out what someone is
discord is a huge increase in mental load, extreme decrease in control and visibility, and it's all in return for always-on persistence and... uh. that's about it i guess
basically i hate discord and i hate having to use it everywhere more and more every day
one more fun thing: if you have multiple identities (which, lest we forget on this internet of hell, is a valid thing to have) then you're shit out of luck because you only get one with discord. same with most social shits these days. remember multiple aim accounts? lol
discord also stops you from logging anything, reading old things offline, etc. you can get around this with third party tools but good luck
with irc i have an immutable, verified history - my own - that i can go back to, search through, etc. to find things if i forgot about them. with discord it's all on some cloud shit server and can be deleted at any time for any or no reason at all
irc also let you ignore people. try doing that in discord so you get a tombstone every time they say something

or you could even filter messages. or run scripts to do things if you wanted! the possibilities were endless because /you/ ran the client
