The problems of the European (€-zone) labour in three simple graphs:

1) Overall, unemployment has come down to pre-crisis levels (1/4)
2) However, dispersion between countries has grown immensely. In 2007, unemployment rates in Germany, France, Italy and Spain were roughly similar. Today, Spanish unemployment is three times as high as German unemployment. (2/4)
This graph shows the change in unemployment by region between 2007 and 2018.

In the Southern periphery (an area which was economically weak to start with), unemployment is still often more than 6 %-points higher than in 2007. (3/4)
In short: The €-crisis has pushed labour market divergence up both between €-countries, but even within Southern €-countries.

Who can then be surprised if discontent with the EU has been on the rise in many places?
