The party last night was the best! And what joy seeing January out with these beauties and dear friends: #Egyptian drag queen Ana Masreya and Omaima Khan. #NYC
With Coco and Ana Masreya #Brooklyn #NYC
On stage we’re Mariam the incredible percussionist whose tabla fused the best music that DJs Carmen Sandiego, Sweaty by Nature and Cardamami played from #Egypt to #Nigeria to #Algeria. Women and a non-binary DJ.
I am going to write a fucking book about last night. It was the queerest MidEast/Arab/North African space I’ve been. It was glorious. I told everyone who recognized me and said hello that the revolution was right here! Right there with us.
It is in these spaces and places where we can all be -be ourselves, be free- that the revolution is and where joy lives. My heart is full and I am so glad to see that young people from the country, continent, and region I am from have created these incredible queer places❤️✊🏽💜🌈
And I danced for four hours straight, went to bed at 6am and now I’m checking my legs still work so that I can make coffee! #Bliss
Slight amendment: Koko not Coco! So one more time: Koko Rokoko, me, Ana Masreya! #Egyptian queens ❤️✊🏽💜🌈
And to be clear: there have been queer Arab parties in NYC before. This wasn’t the first by any stretch. I am talking about the mix of people last night: of sexuality, gender, expression. I’ve been invited to queer Arab parties before but last night was different.
With Peter who made a great night more joyful! 📷 Alexis Brown
