Two thirds of Americans hit retirement age w/$1000 in the bank. Half would be bankrupted by a minor medical emergency. Inequality is at record levels. Trump's tax cuts have helped the 1% while his regulatory cuts put Americans at risk while helping big companies.
GDP growth & stock market records are as remote as the moon to most Americans. Economic anxiety is what they live with daily. Farmers and coal miners and auto workers and steel workers all know Trump lied to them in 2016. These issues--this reality--is why Dems will win in Nov.
Republicans are the party of Wall Street. Democrats are the party of Main Street. Republicans are self-dealing and corrupt and putting healthcare and the environment and our national security at risk. Dems are the only ones who can credibly advocate for the majority of Americans.
The 2020 election will be fought over kitchen table issues. It will come down to Trump lying that everything is great and Americans who know better coalescing behind a Democrat who will stand up for them and focus on creating real economic opportunity and security.
As we shift from the impeachment into campaign season, it is important to shift to what people really care about, what keeps them up at night, at what has rigged our system to keep them treading water while the richest keep getting richer.
The winner in 2020 will be the candidate that the majority of Americans feel will deliver to them a better economic future. It is that simple. It is not the only issue. But it will be the most important at the ballot box.
