Folks, consider yourself intelligent but lacking wisdom and discernment if you are enamoured by a legislator's recent claim that public debt in Kenya is the biggest policy issue today.
That's been an issue for five years so that declaration comes from someone trying to bolt the door after the horse left long ago.
Public budget estimates in 2017/18 had a deficit of ~Ksh. 800B and they couldn't see that?
Every MP who is self-righteously trying to call the National government about public debt needs change his name to "Rip van Winkle".
Because parliament joined the dance of deception by approving huge deficits, it's will forever be known as the "Rip Van Winkle" parliament.
And who is Rip Van Winkle?

Twelve months later, most people won't admit it but know that they didn't know that the chest thumping was going to be unwound pretty quickly.

Folks, so people who have noted that a parlaiment with 349 members, a couple of committees outside country have 102% turnout and think that's new.
I just have to ask if you were alive when @IEBCKenya was reporting impossible turnouts and you all were too busy beating the drums of partisanship to notice.
As I said last year, institutions in Kenya's public sector have a problem with counting.

Transportation is the 2nd biggest expenditure for American households, behind only housing. Today, more Americans carry auto debt, and they owe more on their loans, than ever before.
3. Auto borrowing varies by income, age and location across the United States.
Over the last decade, auto debt per capita has been growing fastest among the oldest Americans (those age 70 and older).

On Fiscal sustainability, foreign denominated debt and MMT:

a lot of people object to MMT's discussion of a lack of "financial constraints" in monetary sovereign countries on the basis of "well aren't foreign denominated payments also financial?" 1/N
There are many things to say about these sorts of arguments. One is, there are very clear conceptual reasons to distinguish balance of payments issues and issues of foreign denomination from domestic currency financial constraints. 2/N
Frankly, I don't think it's a coincidence that people who make arguments along these lines don't produce coherent analysis of balance of payment issues or fiscal policy.This is an area where MMT's focuses bring conceptual clarity to focus on the real issues.3/N
