Many calling this outbreak unexpected but the WHO identified SARS-related coronaviruses as a global health threat in 2016. CDC Protocols were implemented as a response to Ebola, to prevent future outbreaks but Trump spent the last few years defunding them blogs.scientificamerican.com/guest-blog/aft…
COVID-19 shares about 80% of it's genome with SARS, while having a 96% relation to a SARS-related coronavirus found in bats. COVID-19 appears to be a recombinant of multiple known coronaviruses. 100s of SARS-r cov strains exist, found most often in bats.

All this to say, we should not have been caught off guard the way we were. The Trump admins response from the beginning has been completely negligent and reckless. It's clear his biggest concern is the effect on the market and not containing the disease. abcnews.go.com/Politics/stock…
There were plans to transfer those who'd been evacuated from Wuhan and are in quarantine at Travis Airforce base to a closed developmental center. But this was apparently announced without any prior discussion with the city of Costa Mesa or the mayor. oc-breeze.com/2020/02/24/178…
Not having proper protocols in place when planning on transferring actively sick quarantine patients is... do I need to go into detail here? What the hell? A judge ultimately issued a restraining order to prevent transfer. No details were given on why this location was chosen.
Keep in mind that we haven't even been able to keep an effective quarantine at Travis base, as a 'community spread' case of coronavirus has appeared in California outside of the quarantine.
