2/ At Charlottesville, marchers chanted “Russia is our friend.” Researching this, I found comments by organizer Richard Spencer. They speak of Russia as restoring the natural role of family, stopping promotion of homosexuality and as the last bastion of European civilization.
3/ I’m writing you cc @SenatorRomney as you see what Congress & POTUS are doing, $$ is part of it. But there is a deeper strain of extreme right ideology idealizing Russia & Putin as this guardian of white European civilization & Christendom. It’s in Hungary, Poland, Europe.
4/ It’s in Brazil, Philippines, here. It’s described as “populism” but it’s something more. I wanted to encourage responsible thoughtful people to address this by using your resources and platforms to make the public aware of this.
