Why are UK govt ministers spouting this fuckwittery about independence, talking as if the UK had been colonised against its will? They’re supposed to be grownups ffs.

Apart from it being bullshit, every time our govt says "by leaving the EU, we have become an independent, democratic country" it insults all 27 EU member states (including some that 30 years ago were under communist dictatorship) by saying they are not independent or democratic
I feel that the ppl of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are better qualified to judge whether they currently live in an independent, democratic country than ppl who supported Brexit (or those like Grant Shapps, who opposed it at the time but now believe it’s a good idea)
The thing is, sometimes independent nations independently decide to make rules jointly, and independently decide to have independent joint supervision and enforcement mechanisms (h/t @EULondonMark)
