My son's TA is incredible! School refusal this morning meant that we were still in the car after the start of school. I've learned from past mistakes from years ago and I will never carry him in screaming, so I was gently encouraging him, but giving him space to find his calm. 1/
A friend had told school for me so they knew where we are. His TA came and sat with him in the car, talking about their weekends, what they were going to have for breakfast together (he hadn't felt able to eat or drink yet), and a plan so school demands were reduced. 2/
She's said he didn't have to go to assembly, could either work together outside or in a quiet room on their own, but he could join in with the class if he wants. He struggles with another child who demands his TA's attention, so she said they could move groups. 3/
When he felt able to go into school, she gave him a piggyback from the car to school to make it more fun for him. By the time he was through the gate, he said he wanted breakfast.

*This* is #inclusion. Not forcing a child through the doors against their will. 4/
Making changes, adapting, being fine with the parent having to bring in breakfast, toothbrush, whatever if it hasn't been possible at home. This is how #education should work, and it's sad it doesn't for all pupils. 5/5
