Act, authorizing him to direct production.

Pence says companies are "volunteering"

👉Which one is it: Are companies being *directed" to produce the supplies needed or is this still a "volunteer" effort?
Pence also asking hospitals to postpone surgeries. (That's how they make $$$ to stay afloat.)

Rural hospitals facing dire straights can't *purchase* ventilators and supplies w/o MONEY.

Congress hasn't given them MONEY, sp a direct pipeline of MONEY.

This needs to happen and SOON, according to the nation's hospitals: THREAD

1. Direct funding: $100 billion (there is no direct funding yet).

in the reality facing our nation due to the novel coronavirus," the American Hospital Association said in a letter to congressional leaders obtained by NBC.

Hospital Assoc Head in Washington state told NBC situation is 'dire'
in some hospitals. One hospital, for instance, has 1 package of gloves left.

Trump also needs to *activate* the Defense Production Act NOW, they believe. Protective gear needs to be produced by manufacturers, then hospitals need the $$ to purchase it.

👉Schumer calls on Trump to mobilize "as if it were a time of war" when it comes to medical equipment/supplies:

Lack of action is "maddening." Public health infrastructure is "the top priority."

He wants Trump to enact the Defense Production Act of 1950.
"In two weeks the issue of ventilators and ICU beds will be like the issue of tests today," says Schumer.

"The same crisis will be occurring in a few weeks. Mark our words."

"We're behind the eight ball on tests & we're soon gonna be behind the eight ball" on beds/ventilators.
