Was going through some of my Grandad's old things. Found this little card given to him or one of his friends by a French 'girl' in Tunisia in 1943. "to Dixxy, one of the first English soldiers I have seen here. I have time to do something better. I hope you will be pleased
with that. I thank you again for all the things you gave us. I will think of you during the coming Europe campaign. I wish you'll go back home soon - after the Great Victory - a French Girl - Claude de Sonia - May 1943, Saia (Major?) Tunisia. *drawing of crossed fingers*
For context, my Welsh grandfather was in the 132 Welsh Field Regiment Royal Artillery who fought through North Africa and Italy. I don't know who Claude was or the context of this meeting, which somehow makes this a more moving piece of #socialhistory #WWII
