Ahead of whatever the Federal and provincial governments in #Canada will announce today re: #coronavirus as someone in a country, #Denmark, on day 5 of a total lockdown I have some thoughts. #thread to follow.
There needs to be clear near daily press conferences and lines of communication. Here in #Denmark the gov is blasting out #coronavirus messaging via frequent press conferences, through the media, social media, text message blasts, and advertising on public transit. #Canada
#Denmark has quickly delivered a financial aid package for employees, industry, and large and small businesses. The fiscal pain due to the #coronavirus is going to be immense. Massive $ help will be required in any kind of a shutdown. #Canada
This need for $ help will especially apply to people. Unlike #Denmark #Canada has fewer and less robust social supports, a larger population, and way more people living cheque to cheque. In a shutdown that is a major problem needing addressing. #coronavirus
The Danish government has stood shoulder to shoulder with opposition parties, unions, industry, and business groups in crafting aid and delivering the messaging. Across the board unity is a must. This is not the time for partisan BS. #Denmark #Canada #coronavirus
Lastly people need to do their bit. We are all in this together. Danes here have taken it in stride, made adjustments, and continue to live their lives. It is not the end of the world. This isn’t the time for fear and panic. Help each other it is the Canadian way. #Canada
