The Jodhpur #rulers were always striving to introduce new thoughts and knowledge into their state Sir Pratap Singh designed the #Jodhpurs type of #breeches #Jodhpur has produced 2 imp #designers since then. Did the spirit of innovation rub off? #Raghavendrarathore @anujsharmanid

This is the 4th day of colab with @dStephenB thru @MuseumBuddy till now we have learnt how #Indian #soldiers were represented in #art in #England though not always accurately. We also saw how #European soldiers were depicted in #India #temples #woven #handembroidered #textiles
I’ll share some photos of #memorials of #british #soldiers in #India here are from the #afghanchurch in #mumbai it was the 1st Anglican Church in South #bombay started as a chapel. In 1838soldiers killed in the 1st#afghanwar were laid to rest here, then from the other 2wars ImageImageImageImage
This video is from South #parkstreetcemetery in #Calcutta with1600 tombs built in1767 for those employed with the #britisheastindiacompany not all soldiers. It’s probably the largest #cemetery in 19thcen outside #Europe #America #european men died around 30 years &women younger

As we proceed with our discussion on the representations of #soldiers in a variety of #media, specific to the #british army, #indiansepoys during the #worldwars @dStephenB unveils a set of #paintings and #posters this is part of our colab, a thrilling initiative by @MuseumBuddy
These are #handwoven #silk #saris made in #Murshidabad in #Bengal in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.Called ‘Baluchari’ sari as they were woven in the land near the river Bhagirathi which flows by Murshidabad. ‘Balu’ means ‘sand’ & ‘char’ means ‘bank’ in #bangla #language ImageImageImage
If you look carefully at these saris, they depict #European #soldiers with their #armsandweapons in their #traditional #costume they definitely caught the fascination of the local #weavers yesterday we saw the soldiers on #femple #terracotta and now on #textiles @MuseumBuddy

This is a #handmade #terracotta panel from a 19thcentury #temple in #murshidabad in #Bengal it depicts #soldiers with their #arms we can clearly see from their #costumes #headgear #footwear #swords that they are part of the #local population @dStephenB @arthysteriaa @MuseumBuddy Image
This #terracotta panel from a 19thcentury #temple in #baranagar in #Bengal shows #European #Soldiers How do we know they are? From their #muskets #attire #headgear the presence of these soldiers must have had a great impact in the #lives of their local people #museums #stories Image
Another stunning #terracotta panel from a temple in #atpur in #Bengal @DalrympleWill said in his talk yesterday that the #British carried away 40 boats of wealth from the #murshidabad treasury in 18th cen. No wonder these #European soldiers are even in #temples flanked by #gods Image
