If some, and not all media, didnt highlight the Tablighi role - would there have been any condemnation of the Tablighi org and its behaviour even in this article? The highlighting has forced a wide ranging defensive counter campaign to protect the image of Tablighi Jamaat.
But the very active defense of Tablighis itself indicates, why without the few media exposures, Tablighi's strict religious procedural conduct that creates the problems in a pandemic, would have been swept under the carpet, and therefore allowed to continue.
Because of a certain sympathy in academic humanities research that tries to build up Tablighis supposed reluctance to engage in polemics/politics, the chateratti ignorance has a distant rosy view of Tablighis.
But there is also ample documented research on why its not so "detached" from politics, intra-Islam and extra-Islam competitions which in different nations have fed into violence (S.Africa), as well as provided the ideological pathway to more active jihad.
I understand the fear in defenders of Tablighi image is that all this talk will encourage ppl who didnt think of them much before due to below-the-radar mode - to research more on the nature/ideology/techniques of its peculiar Deobandi+Nadwatul anti-Barelvi roots.
Not much exists in public domain on its finances either, while it has financed a surprisingly large volume of missionary campaigns, and the rare distant glimpse into the property/lifetsyles of its leaders (even though seemingly it claims a very decentralized "impoverished" form).
Its an interesting Deobandi offshoot, and its strategies and tactics and ideological approach needs to be studied by those who would like to have a comprehensive grasp of the many fronts of jihad and aim of Islamization with total erasure of non-islamics as end goal.
