/ Welcome to Wednesday in the independent republic of Brexitlandia
/ Today, yes, today is the day the Cabinet meets to discuss what it wants from Brexit. That is 18 months after the referendum and nearly 2 years since the date of the referendum was first announced 🤪
/ Some may think it somewhat foolish to hold a referendum with no plan as to what to do if leave won especially when the 2014 balance of competences review found no major issues with the current structure of the UK's role in the EU gov.uk/government/new…
/ Some may think it negligent to trigger article 50 and a two year clock with no plan. 🤯
/ If @theresa_may @DavidDavisMP @michaelgove @BorisJohnson @PhilipHammondUK @AmberRuddHR @LiamFox are going to discuss what they want maybe they should first try answering these questions and then based on those answers think about their strategy gov.uk/government/new…
/ Especially as @theresa_may said this in a speech yesterday "Because when there isn’t just one way of doing things or one perspective on an issue, our understanding is enriched and we can achieve better outcomes."
/ Obviously @theresa_may does not take that consensus driven approach to Brexit because that would not be strong and stable 🤯
/ Obviously strong and stable leadership does not worry about minutiae like what will Brexit do to UK manufacturing theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
/ Which is to some sidesplitting funny because if Brexit decimates our manufacturing what is the point of negotiating our trade deals if we do not have much to offer and the gains from those trade deals will not offset the losses arising from leaving the EU. Ah such fun 😢
/ Especially when the EU mindful of the UK's redline of not being subject to the ECJ's jurisdiction proposes that if the UK does not comply with SM/CU rules during the transition the EU can limit single market access theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
/ Luckily the Ghost of Victorian Past and all round good egg @Jacob_Rees_Mogg thinks this is dangerous and that the ECJ should be the arbiter of any disputes. huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/brexit-j…
/ So now in the last week man of the people @Jacob_Rees_Mogg has argued for the UK having a veto on new EU laws and for the role of the ECJ during the transition. He is the most pro-EU leaver there is. 👏👏👏
/ Meanwhile @bernardjenkin continues to demonstrate that he does not know how the WTO works even though that is what he is arguing for 🙄🇬🇧🦄
/ Meanwhile the EU has published a series of Brexit preparedness notices which @DExEUgov would do well to read as a faster way to get to the bottom of what leaving means for the UK ec.europa.eu/info/brexit/br…
/ After all @DExEUgov is the copy and paste department par excellence so copying and pasting from the EU's website should be well in their competence. Maybe they can add the information to their "secret database" 🤫🤫🤫
/ Maybe @dexeu can add it to their deep and special analysis of the customs bill
/ Some MPs are gently starting to ask the difficult questions
/ As the answers will inform Government policy. Indeed it may reveal what the UK wants which could be a unique and empowering strategy for the Maybot
/ Some may query whether showing the EU what a bespoke, bold and ambitious deal looked like was essentially cherry cakeism but repackaged as a single cherry bakewell so as not to look too greedy. Who knows? The Maybot certainly does not 😳
/ Meanwhile the EU27 and European Parliament continue to work on improving the EU institutions such as having a directly elected president of the European civil service, the European Commission
/ It is almost as if the European Union is an ongoing project of peace to improve the lives of its citizens through dialogue but don't tell the UK because they are leaving the fastest growing "sinking ship" for the once fastest growing now fastest sinking ship in the 🌎
/ Meanwhile the UK continues to work out whether the contents of tweet 21 are true
/ Still as we are leaving, now is as good a time as any to find out whether we pissed away the best deal anyone could have - some may come to refer to the old terms as the "Cherry Cake" deal which was deep and special
/ Meanwhile the Maybot warns that future public debate is in danger and a bitterness and aggression has entered into our public debate. And for these reasons a new criminal offence will need to be introduced
/ I am no expert but saying there is no magic money tree for nurses and then bribing the DUP by £1.5bn, using the term citizens of nowhere, creating a hostile environment for immigrants, trying to bypass Parliament, proposing Henry 8 powers ...
/ lying about the content and existence of Brexit impact assessments, not challenging newspapers for calling judges "enemies of the people" would look like major contributing factors to the tone of public debate today. But then I voted remain so my views are irrelevant 🤐🤐🤐
