1. I found a very interesting bit of information in Footnote 218! It may indicate a direct lead to #Spygate2. It seems Peter Strzok lied to the OIG about allowing a "non-FBI" family member to access his private email where he was doing unauthorized FBI business.
2. Strzok was emailing FBI business to his personal email account. Including information under seal by a federal courts & grand jury information. The OIG notified both DOJ prosecutors about these offenses.
3. When asked about using private email, Strzok said a variety of things that are not true. I’ll break some of this down, but he argued that any use of personal devices/accounts was to get around tech problems with FBI systems. From P. 427 of OIG report.
4. So lets start with his claim that he only used personal email when it wasn’t possible to use FBI systems or there were problems with FBI systems. P. 427
5. Then Strzok argued that it was acceptable to use personal email when “it is not practical or possible” to use your FBI device. But we can find many examples where this was not true of his use. P. 427-8 #OIGReport
6. Obviously the OIG staff knew of these texts about Imsg, draft emails, & emails too. I’ll just say his answers lack candor. #LackingCandor P. 429 We have texts where Page/Strzok specifically state something is work related, too sensitive for text, & then switch to discuss work.
7. Page’s story was a little different. She claimed the technical limitations issue blaming it mostly on autocorrect. Though she tried to argue switching to other means was “mostly personal use”. This is repeatedly contradicted by their texts. #PeterStrzok #LisaPage p. 429
8. The section concludes with this. Strzok’s personal use & his statements about it were referred to the FBI INSD/OPR. Since his statements lack candor, it is central to the investigation. Seems likely they are hinting that Page left the department because of her referrals.
9. Peter Strzok refused to provide access to the OIG to his private emails account where he was conducting FBI work. Work that is under seal by one court & work covered by grand jury secrecy rules & regulations. Strzok did search his own email for work emails & said none existed.
10. Then it gets interesting, with two sensitive leaks reported to at least 2 prosecutors, it is entirely likely that they then subpoenaed his email or got a warrant. We can confirm this with Footnote 218, where they note Strzok allowed a "non-FBI family member" to access it.
11. Because Strzok said no one else accessed it, & the #OIGReport shows evidence of this access (& perjury). Evidence that could only have been gathered through a warrant or other legal process to identify the access & verify who it was. So who was this "non-FBI family member"?
12. So who was Strzok's "non-FBI family member" who was accessing his private email where he & Page were privately communicating? Allegedly communicating about their affair but not work. Well, it was probably Strzok's wife, but I doubt she was given access to read private emails.
13. Note the @JusticeOIG did not say non-government family member, so they imply that the family member worked for another agency. As others have noted in October of 2016, Melissa Hodge Strzok was promoted to Deputy Director of the Enforcement Division at the SEC.
14. If you are not aware of the second #Spygate case Strzok's wife (or her division) played a role in an almost identical attempt by people illegally accessing NSA intercepts, generating news stories, & then FBI Counterintelligence starting an investigation into @JaredKushner
15. You can find those details here: But it is very interesting that @FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok felt hiding his wife's involvement was important enough to lie to the OIG about it. Then her team was involved w/ an FBI CI invgtn. into the WH
16. That little footnote shows that while the @JusticeOIG did not have legal cause to look at those emails without Strzok's consent. But one of the prosecutors did establish probable cause & prove he was lacking candor. So soon we will learn what his wife's involvement was.
