It is perplexing why, in his @nytimes op-ed about calling things what they are instead of using euphemisms, @BretStephensNYT cannot say that the Pittsburgh attack was antisemitic.

Attacking Jews because they support immigration is like attacking Jews because they support Israel, or because they support capitalism, or because they support socialism, or because they act different, or because they try to integrate. Taking away the excuse won't stop the hate.
The Jew haters choose what their circle hates most - and links that to Jews. Hence, the Left calls "Zionists" racist because that's the worst thing you can be to them.
Jew hatred precedes the excuses, it isn't prompted by the excuses given.
Which is why the whole Left/Right argument over antisemitism misses the point. It is completely independent of the "reasons" the haters give.
