The austerity narrative goes back to the great depression and the greatest generation. Calvinism, Christianity. Boot straps. Scarcity. Clean your plate. Carried ice 50 flights of stairs...1/x
Ultimately decoupling the moralizations of the military & "fiscal discipline" from our ability to save lives is something that MUST be accomplished to move forward. We must separate the "should's" from the "yes we absolutely can w/o hesitations"

This is PRECISELY why decoupling taxes from spending is the tip of the spear.This is precisely why my focus of the last 3yrs has been to decouple the concept of spending & taxation being dependent on each other & why so many slammed me over the yrs whilst many were just hating me
Now... folks are waking and these conversations are happening in broad daylight.

What a nice change.

It was tough doing it when everyone thought I was crazy.
Hell, some benefited from my struggle and have looked back and judged that journey without having actually been there when it was a jungle of hate for activists.

Bravo to the pioneers and carry on new comers. We have a lot of work to do.

What is the main insights of #MMT to the activist?

That the nation isn't broke and doesn't require ↗️📈 taxes to pay for programs?

MMT is not political but it exposes fraud, corruption and destructive behaviors easily.
MMT leverages sectoral balances to assess the health of an economy. Those sectors include Public Sector, Private Sector and Rest of World.

MMT shows we are not on a gold standard, petro standard or anything other than a sovereign free floating non-convertible fiat currency.
Not since 1971 when Nixon ended the convertibility to gold via the Bretton Woods Accord.

Congressional spending is the birth of a dollar and federal taxation is the death of a dollar.

We don't just "print money".

There is a HUGE public out there who thinks our nation, which creates its own currency everytime it spends, must be constrained like a household budget which cannot do the same.
The lie is so pernicious that no other factor will hold us back including corruption, rigged elections, or any other issue you may raise.

Because this lie is responsible for more death and destruction than any other lie, it is ground zero of our efforts.
All the yellow vests and protests in the world will not fix what ails us until this is known.

It is really the most maddening truth because honestly the truth is so easy to see.

Federal taxes serve to create demand for the currency..

But they do not pay for any programs.

Its tweets like this that we have heard time and time again, that shout at the problem and never go the xtra mile to learn the solution. I see friends liking the bridge to oblivion posts & wonder why they stay silent, ignoring solutions. It makes you realize they never paid attn.
When I see upstart 3rd parties and friends staying in the low hanging fruit of pointing and problems and skipping the solutions (#FederalJobGuarantee, #GreenNewDeal, #MedicareForAll) and then realize they never bothered really getting #MMT... it makes you further realize...
The lights aren't on yet.

1/ SOS #BOSTON:

Yesterday #ICE physically restrained my client just outside the #EastBoston District Court clerk's office immediately after he made bail. The chief of probation said it was the first time in 40 yrs immigration authorities had actually entered the courthouse.
2/ He is 21 years old. No crim record. 1 month away from a greencard. Facing serious harm if deported.

We had done everything possible to keep him from #ICE, but even the #Boston #TrustAct could not protect him.

This is a problem.

3/ Even when they are on a state-issued GPS bracelet, ICE officers will cut the bracelet off and toss it back onto a probation officer's desk. Even so, probation told me that they are officially "neutral" on #ICE actions. I tried to explain that there is no "neutral" here.
