News that the US is preparing for an immediate and complete withdrawal from northeastern Syria may well be a warning to the Kurdish side, as a further emphasis on how critical and serious the situation is.
The US has been sponsoring talks between SDF/PYD and other Kurdish groups and the motivation is to protect the SDF-led Kurdish autonomy in northern Syria. The Peshmerga side offered a buffer zone along the border to be manned by US-allied Peshmerga groups.
SDF/PYD response has been negative, and it attempted to negotiate with the US the return of the Assad regime to the border instead of US-allied Kurdish and Arab groups including KRG-vetted Syrian-Kurdish Peshmergas.
SDF/PYD is making the exact same mistake Iraqi Kurds made in 2017, forcing the US to choose between two allies. Iraqi Kurds doubted that the US would choose Iraq over them, it happened. The same fate may repeat fro Syrian Kurds as Turkey is a stronger ally for the US than SDF.
Kurds fail to understand in both countries that the strategic importance of Iraq-Turkey and Syria-Turkey borders are way less than the importance of the Iraq-Syria border.
The US will not risk its control over the Iraq-Syria border to keep another ally away from the significantly less strategic Syria-Turkey border.
