I don't like the meme but in this case, it can be used to sum up Tory party policy quite wickedly (thank you @Protohedgehog for the idea) ... and wicked is the right word.
X : You seem quite angry?
Me : I'm certainly annoyed. It's not a recent thing, I've been going on about social mobility and inequality for decades. It's just in the last decade we've seen 120,000 lives lost, 14M in poverty and inequality increase. That justifies harsh words.
... what you need to understand is this channel "crisis", Sajid as red leader or gold commander or whatever, the timing of the Home Office announcement, the "Dover Port" crisis has all the hallmarks of misdirection from that which really matters. Hence my use of the meme.
A constant beat of outrage can be used to disorientate others. If this is the game, then it's treading into dark arts at a time where unity and leadership is needed.
X : Misdirection from what?
Me : Hmmm, where to start? ... "poll of UK family doctors found that 99% said they feared that under-18s would come to harm as a direct result of facing long delays to see a specialist and vital care being rationed" - theguardian.com/society/2018/d…
... Health and social care spending cuts linked to 120,000 excess deaths in England - blogs.bmj.com/bmjopen/2017/1…
... Professor Philip Alston, UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty - "It seems patently unjust and contrary to British values that so many people are living in poverty" - ohchr.org/Documents/Issu…
... Between 70,000 and 250,000 operations halted in 2018 due to cuts to NHS staff and beds - mirror.co.uk/news/top-tens/…
... an estimated 131,000 children who are homeless in Britain (England,
Scotland and Wales) in Christmas 2018, a rise of 59% in five years -england.shelter.org.uk/__data/assets/…
... and what do we get? It's a "crisis" there's a couple of boats in the Channel, call out Gold commander, put up the bat signal etc etc. It's laughable if it was even remotely funny ... which it isn't. Instead it's a shambles worthy of May's Withdrawal Agreement.
