1. Like artists and musicians, entrepreneurs often fall off after releasing a blockbuster product.

Why does this happen? How can you avoid it?

I’ve thought about this question for a long time (probably out of fear it will happen to me). Here is what I’ve discovered.
2. The sequel rarely beats the original.

Godfather II & The Dark Knight are amazing, but most of us aren’t Francis Ford Coppola or Christopher Nolan.

If you built a blockbuster product, try something new.

Be Steve Jobs at Pixar, not Steve Jobs at Next Computer.
3. Don’t chase fads.

We all know the product leader who releases a blockbuster & thinks they “get it” more than others. Ego.

They launch a chatbot product. Fails. They launch a crypto product. Fails. Their confidence starts to decline. Teammates lose trust.

They lose.
4. Evolve your style.

The Beatles started with simple rock-n-roll music.

Sgt Pepper's (8th album) created sounds that had never been heard.

They made use of orchestras & combined rock, music hall, psychedelia, traditional Indian & Western classical.

700 hours to record.
5. When asked about Sgt. Pepper's, Paul McCartney:

”I made a suggestion. I said, 'We need to get away from ourselves - how about if we just become sort of an alter ego band?'

With a Little Help from My Friends. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. A Day In The Life.

#1 album ever.
6. Keep the band together.

Many of the best entrepreneurs & product leaders work together on multiple companies. How can you do this?

* Distribute credit & equity fairly
* Let founders contribute creatively
* Have more than one leader
* Don't make rash decisions
* Stay healthy
7. Keep building products.

Entrepreneurs get distracted after building their first blockbuster. They do the conference circuit. They start a podcast. They focus on titles at work.

We are all guilty of this at times.

Stay focused on building products. Best use of your time.
