1/ All right, y'all, so I just watched this video from Stephen Cunnane. His research on Alzheimer's, ketones, & brain glucose metabolism is SUPERB. Out-freaking-standing. I cite several of his (and his colleagues') papers in my book. HT to @KetoCarnivore
2/ After watching this, I am even more appalled than usual that most mainstream articles about Alz make zero--ZERO--mention of the fundamental underlying problem: that the brain is unable to effectively metabolize glucose. And this starts decades before clinical symptoms.
3/ This decline in the cerebral metabolic rate of glucose is measurable via PET scan in people as young as their 30s and 40s, a point I make in every talk I ever give about this illness. *This disease process starts in the young.*
4/ Alzheimer's is not--NOT--an "old people" disease. It only *manifests* in older age after the compromised brain glucose fueling has gone for so long and is so severe and widespread that the brain can no longer compensate. *That's* when someone starts showing signs & symptoms.
5/ But make no mistake -- the disease took root *long before* the memory problems start and the personality changes begin. COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT & MEMORY LOSS ARE THE SYMPTOMS. IMPAIRED BRAIN GLUCOSE METABOLISM IS THE DISEASE.
6/ So for anyone who thoughtfully sends me random links to some "groundbreaking" new research, or a "breakthrough" discovery for Alzheimer's, if the paper or article you're linking makes NO mention of ⬇️ brain glucose metabolism, throw it in the trash b/c that's where it belongs
7/ I am STUNNED/appalled by articles that go on and on about amyloid, apoeE4, leaky blood-brain barrier, gut biome, and whatever the hell else people are tilting at windmills about, while making ZERO MENTION OF THE ACTUAL FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM.
