1/ How to solve the Backstop
2/ Either the UK or the EU may decide to withdraw from the backstop requirements
3/ The party deciding to withdraw from the backstop requirements shall notify the other party and the parties shall negotiate and conclude an agreement setting out the arrangements for replacing the backstop taking account of the Good Friday Agreement
4/ and with maintaining peace on the island of Ireland
5/ The parties shall have 2 years within which to negotiate such replacement arrangements. Should the parties reach agreement on such replacement arrangements such arrangements shall come into force on the date agreed by both parties
6/ Should the parties be unable to reach agreement within such 2 year period, the existing arrangements shall continue unless and until both parties agree any alternative arrangements
7/ It shall be for the party wishing to withdraw from the backstop arrangements to propose replacement arrangements that take account of the Good Friday Agreement and maintaining peace on the island of Ireland
8/ Any replacement arrangements shall also be subject to a referendum in Ireland and separately one in Northern Ireland and shall require approval of not less than 75% of voters in each of Ireland and Northern Ireland
9/ Should the requisite majority not be reached the existing arrangements shall continue unless and until the parties agreement any alternative arrangements.
10/ Any alternative arrangements shall also be subject to a referendum on the same terms as set out in tweet 8
