Economist @MarkWeisbrot points out the crippling US sanctions on Venezuela right now are even worse than those imposed on Iraq in the 1990s (which led to the totally preventable deaths of hundreds of thousands of children).

They amount to a trade embargo.

When the Trump administration appointed coup leader Guaidó as supposed "president" of Venezuela, the US expanded a de facto trade embargo, economist @MarkWeisbrot explains.

Trump's executive order in August 2017 also created a financial embargo. "And that was devastating."
The US strategy of declaring Venezuela a supposed "national security threat" to justify sanctions and economic warfare started under Obama, and was expanded by Trump

This "national emergency" tactic being used against Venezuela is the exact same tactic used by Trump for the wall
.@MarkWeisbrot points out that, if the Trump admin can be sued for its fake "national emergency" tactic to build the wall, it can also be sued for using the same tactic to economically strangle Venezuela.

But there's no liberal campaign to stop the latter
