One interesting tidbit: The Turkey-US Business Council (TAIK), one of Mercury's clients, claims to be independent from the Turkish government - but in October and November last year, Mercury did outreach for Umut Acar, Turkey's Consul General in Chicago, on TAIK's behalf
Mercury's newfound diligence may be a result of the DOJ's recent announcement that it will be ramping up FARA enforcement in the near future. Extra scrutiny will likely be applied to U.S. entities representing Chinese, Russian, and Middle Eastern interests nytimes.com/2019/03/06/us/…

Okay, here's a THREAD, because people have been asking me for one, about Jamal Khashoggi's little-known Turkish ancestry, Arabized Turkish surnames, and the overlooked interconnectedness of the Ottoman world.
If you read Turkish media, you may have noticed over the past week that the name of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was allegedly murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul this month, is typically rendered in a Turkified form: "Cemal Kaşıkçı."
As @jdryan08 has noted, this spelling doesn't make much sense if you're following an Arabic-to-Turkish transliteration scheme - "خاشقجي" would be much better rendered as "Hasokçı" or "Hasıkçı," neither of which are Turkish surnames like "Kaşıkçı."

1/ I'm going through FARA registrations for personal reasons. Today I found this email sent to lawmakers by Ballard Partners, a powerful Washington lobbying firm, which calls Turkey "the world's most humanitarian country." It's basically regime propaganda fara.gov/docs/6415-Info…
2/ Whose signature is at the end of the email? Former congressman Robert Wexler, who signed on as a senior counselor at Ballard in April 2017. That’s all normal Washington revolving-door stuff, I suppose… politico.com/tipsheets/poli…
3/ But Wexler currently holds another position: President of the S. Daniel Abraham Center for Middle East Peace (@AbrahamCenter).

Manafort paid them MILLIONS via a bank in Cyprus.

Skadden now admits they were a FOREIGN AGENT for pro-#Russia🇷🇺leaders in #Ukraine and recently settled with DOJ and agreed to cooperate FULLY.

Gates (Manafort’s bagman) is cooperating, too.

1) @nordicmonitor reveals the full text of implementation deal for military agreement between #Turkey & #Qatar that allowed Turkey to set up a base in Doha. The agreement is full of loopholes and vague terms that appear to have been deliberately inserted. nordicmonitor.com/2019/01/turkey…
2) The bilateral agreement would allow Turkish President Recep Tayyip #Erdogan to use Turkish air, land and naval assets to promote his own ideological and personal interests in the Gulf and beyond by using the hard power of the NATO military alliance’s second largest army.
3) The agreement carries huge risks of escalation of Turkey’s involvement in conflicts that may have nothing to do with protecting or promoting Turkey’s national interests. The vagueness in the deal were deliberate & systematic to allow Erdogan to use them as he sees fit.
