my2c. when Trump announced moving US embassy to Jerusalem, there were interagency background calls w/ dept officials explaining. nada today
today was state pointing to white house & WH saying got nothing more than tweet. when editor asked abt shebaa farms, it was apparent
bureaucracy unprepared to answer probably because unclear. it felt a lot more like Trump Syria exit decision in december than embassy move.
like agencies were blindsided and hunkering down
moving embassy and this were maybe similar types of decisions. but the discipline that went with former not present now. as w syria pullout
not sure if that is a function of how bolton runs the interagency or doesnt run the interagency or what.
seems an unsettling way for a superpower to move & announce decisions in non emergency situation, in the dark, for political impact
and wonder how effective. see syria exit. see venezuela. they are not really working.
seems like Trump Bolton etc mostly talking to people who agree with them and believing what they want. and in real life, it may not work
someone who knows venezuela more, certainly seemed expectation when US announced recognizing guaido that it was going to move fast.
but it hasn’t. seems kind of stalemated. and wondering if trump braintrust was getting propagated to. who was there to push back?
