I have the solution to Brexit, based on a detailed analysis of national political opinion, using datasets from Parliament's petition website. And the answer is...puppies.
I downloaded data for the 50 most popular petitions, and used linear regression of the signatures per constituency to find closely connected petitions. Then I fed the results into the @keylines network visualisation toolkit that I help build in my day job at @CambridgeIntel.
The graph shows several distinct clusters of political opinion. On one side, there are several anti-Brexit petitions, dominated by the #RevokeArticle50 petition (size reflects number of signatures).
Closely connected to this group are petitions about Windrush, NHS privatisation, and plastic packaging. The Windrush petition is linked to others about Grenfell and slavery in Libya.
On the other side of the diagram are broadly pro-Brexit petitions, closely connected to petitions against ISIS returners and the UN's Global Compact for Migration.
But what links the two groups? What brings these bitterly feuding political opponents together? What do we still have in common as a nation? Well, according to the graph, animal welfare, and in particular, puppies.
So there you have it. That's the secret to national reconciliation. Should we leave without a deal? Puppies! Should we revoke Article 50? Puppies! Should we accept May's deal? How about another referendum? Puppies puppies puppies!

The increased support for a ‘no deal’ Brexit is the ultimate failure of the Leave movement. It’s the inevitable consequence of the refusal to grasp details, come to terms with complexity & coalesce around a plan. Compromise can be frustrating. So instead they will have a tantrum.
Some Brexiteers advocated sensible solutions. The EFTA/EEA solution gained a lot of traction in the years before the ref. Even Farage had promoted it & countless others. See Farage below from 2011 essentially making the ‘Liberal Leave’ case!

Been engaged in a long thread with @0Calamity and others with the common Corbynite theme:
"But what can Corbyn do? He's not in power"
For a "popular movement" there seems to be a lack of awareness of how they work.
So, what *can* he do?
2) well firstly we need to recognize two fairly obvious things.
a) unfortunately, 80% of our current MPs are, well, sheep. They follow, especially public opinion, they don't lead
b) the prerequisite for stopping Brexit is public opinion. This *must* be shifted or it won't stick
3) this is when Corbynistas chime in & say "look at the polls,enough people haven't shifted, if Corbyn opposed Brexit it would be political suicide"

Putting to one side the "party before country" bias which is obvious to any non Labour supporter, isn't this what Labour is about?

Today, @CER_EU publishes my piece on #Brexit and #JHA. I have been looking at this for 1,5 years so I hope I did not make too many mistakes (links to piece - cer.eu/publications/a… and opens thread)
At the outset of the #Brexit process, most people assumed that a deal on #police and #judicial co-operation was easier to get than one on #trade. Time has shown this is not the case. Ongoing co-op on #JHA is one of the few items yet to be agreed on #withdrawal deal. Why?
Well, because the #EU and #UK's opening positions in the #negotiation are incompatible: Britain wants a #bespoke agreement with the EU, a la #Schengen, but is not willing to accept #ECJ or #EUCharter. EU wants to replicate existing models. What to do?

Give it a while before logging on, the initial reaction will be largely noise. There will be three types of noise:
1. Leave commentators saying that it is a poke in the eye for Remoaners, a triumph for May and that the EU has been caught napping. 4 hours on, half of these people will be saying it's a surrender because Rees-Mogg will have denounced it as a betrayal.

So the Lords voted pretty overwhelmingly (347👍, 225 👎) today that 🇬🇧 should stay in a Customs Union with 🇪🇺.

What is this going to mean?

Most obviously it makes the chances of 🇬🇧 having a Customs Union with 🇪🇺 marginally higher. That's welcome.

But I think the significance is more tactical.

First, this all depends on how the Commons reacts.

Does it try to fight back against Lords, and Withdrawal Bill drags on? Or does Govt back down, knowing there would probably be a majority in the Commons for a CU if it wanted it?

The latter looks more likely.

1. Worst national leadership in my lifetime forcing through the most damaging, misguided & missold policy I can remember. Ideology & vested self interest replace statesmanship, soundbites replace sound judgement & autocracy subverts democracy.

2. A flawed Leave campaign based on lies, deceit, disingenuity & over simplification & a #Remain one fought w/o any positivity from the Govt & no real commitment from Labour, whose leader was virtually AWOL, did no justice to #Brexit complexity & betrayed our democratic process.
3. A mere 37% of voters/26.5% of the Ppl voted leave in a legally Non-Binding test of public opinion which has been corrupted, on the basis of an illegitimate political promise & interpreted as being the irrefutable Will of the Ppl.
The 1st is insufficient to claim the latter!
