/ Comparison of US Revenue per MAU for @Pinterest, @Snap, and @Twitter. For reference, @facebook in Q4 18 was $34.85. Pretty similar monetization between Snap/Pinterest. Pinterest is growing fastest of them all. Note that Snap data is North America and Pinterest/Twitter is US.
/ The first input to this data is MAU. For @Twitter and @Pinterest, the data is US-only and for @Snap it is North America. Snap has estimated 80% DAU/MAU ratio in NA so applying this ratio gets us ~100M MAU. Pinterest is the only platform growing in the region, albeit modestly.
/ The second input is revenue. @Snap and @Pinterest are pretty close in scale, but Pinterest is seeing more rapid growth. Note again that Snap includes all North America.
/ It is worth noting that @Pinterest does not report DAU, but reported that WAU/MAU ratio in Q4 2018 was 57%. This implies that DAU/MAU ratio (and DAU) is much lower than for @Snap which is at ~80%. So on a DAU basis, Pinterest actually monetizes at a much higher clip.
/ More than anything this illuminates how poorly Snap is monetizing it’s daily users. With ~80% engagement you would expect much stronger ARPDAU. Presumably, a lot of usage comes from messaging which offers limited revenue opportunities.
