Shafer's intelligentsia link goes to one of my stories about Rupert Murdoch and his heirs. I actually agree with much of what Shafer writes; my emphasis has been on the cumulative impact of Fox News over the years, not just its cheerleading of Trump. theintercept.com/2018/11/04/fox…
My latest story on the Murdochs focuses on Lachlan, the son who has been tapped to take over from Rupert. Shafer unfortunately notes that my "ideological x-ray" of Lachlan is 5,700 words long, a reminder that might cause yet more trauma for my editors. theintercept.com/2019/03/30/lac…

They're all great. Shafer notes the NYT portrays James Murdoch as unhappy with the rightwing slant of Fox. It appears James or his wife Kathryn (or both) were direct sources for this kind view of them. Fwiw I've never seen evidence James tried to change Fox News in any way.
Shafer notes that British playwright Dennis Potter called his cancer Rupert. The Potter interview by Melvyn Bragg is legendary. Here's the snippet about Rupert.

Important to note the people who profit from the "hate-for-profit racket" that is Fox News -- Rupert Murdoch, who founded the network in 1996, and his children, particularly Lachlan, who oversees Fox, as well as James, Elisabeth and Prudence.
I've written about the role of the Murdochs in spreading rightwing hate. I'm not sure there's any way to alter the family's behavior -- they've reaped a fortune from Fox and the network is doubling down on its hate -- but I wrote this in November. theintercept.com/2018/11/04/fox…

When we think of drone killings we mostly think of the U.S., but the genie is out of the bottle. This article by @UmarFarooq_ reveals how Turkey built its own fleet of killer drones and is using them on its own citizens. Welcome to the second drone age. theintercept.com/2019/05/14/tur…
In the second drone age, "The use of drones to kill people has proliferated far beyond the United States." There's no stopping this trend. Turkey was unable to buy killer drones from the U.S. so it built its own. Its program was headed by a Turkish engineer who studied at MIT.
From the article: "Turkey’s drones are a near constant presence in the skies in the country’s southeast. Nearly every day, a Turkish drone, usually a TB2, either fires on a target or provides the location of a target that is subsequently bombed by an F-16 or attack helicopter."

Much of what is published online doesn't have a half-life beyond 15 seconds. This piece by Jim Lewis is even better now than when it was published in early 2016, because the question it answers -- how did Trump accomplish his con? -- is more crucial.

After 70 years of imperial/neoliberal indoctrination the web of lies is so obviously absurde (9/11, Skripal, WH = ISIS, etc.), that it is dissoluting. The empathetic humanity connects, closes ranks and sends their eternal psychopathic rulers and their lackeys into nowhere land.
The "evil empire" is a lifelong three year old child. I certainly loved my children at that age too, however only because they created not only a surreal mess, but also made steady progress.

A great documentary about psychopathy and society:
The elite invented "democracy" to protect them from the empathetic people. The media are their means for misleading the people sedated by "democracy". This is definitely a bad thing since the people have become educated and the elite almost totally insane.
