I was going to tag a few people into this thread, who I knew were discussing the subject matter, but I've decided not to & let's just see where it goes.
I just want to make a few observations about the upcoming EP elections & the Remain 'strategy'. But first - #Brexit and #Trump.

There are distinct parallels between how the Trump and Brexit campaigns were co-ordinated. The one I want to focus on is the ability of both campaigns to successfully unite their core support (both roughly 37% of the electorate) under a single issue.
That issue is Nationalism.

Now I realise that other strings hang off that issue, but it is at the heart of everything emanating from both Trump and Brexit Leavers.
And this is where they have the advantage over both US Liberals and UK Remainers.
Because as Remainers, we *know* Brexit is complicated.

We *know* that there will be pain upon leaving the EU - economic, social, political pain. We are at pains to try and explain these things to Leavers, with little success. And why? Because we can't in our heads boil down Remaining to a single issue - it's simply not in our DNA.

All Remainers agree on the destination they have set but different factions simply can't agree on how to undertake the journey. The single issue bloody-mindedness of Leavers eludes us. They don't care about the complications and added to that, they were underdogs AND THEY WON.

So here is (finally) my strategy for Remainers in the upcoming EP elections. Forget trying to woo the wobbly Leavers. There aren't enough of them to make a difference and we musn't lose sight of the fact that the Referendum was won with votes from only 37% of the electorate.

Remainers need to concentrate on the 63% that either voted to stay, or didn't bother to vote.
Get the vote out in bigger numbers than ever before, with the single message 'REMAIN IN THE EU'.
Never mind tactical voting - there is absolutely no chance of electoral pacts here.

Get the vote out. Get as many of that 63% to vote for anyone other than Farage's mob or UKIP or the feckin' Tories, because then it won't matter about pacts and tactics. Vote for the best Pro-EU candidate in your area. Vote in numbers. Vote on the single destination of Remain.

Forget old grievances from past General Elections. They have no place here. Destroy the Tories. Destroy Farage. Destroy UKIP. Send the message loud and clear. Get off your arses and vote.
General Elections are for another day and for other issues.

Keep it simple. One issue - our partnership with, our voice in, the European Union.
That's about all I have to say (there may have been more but as you can see, I've slightly lost the run of myself. Apologies - I'm not Seth Abramson or Steve Analyst 😁)

* If over a million people can be mobilised to march on a certain day, in a certain place, under different banners, think what can be achieved by mobilising 63% of an electorate to vote in the EU elections.
