It would be fair to say that EU-ASEAN relations haven't progressed as well as hoped in terms of trade talks with the likes of Malaysia and Indonesia, with the palm oil issue a substantial impediment. The UK hasn't notably been involved in the discussion thestar.com.my/business/busin…

There is a growing move towards the ideas of promoting 'European champions' to compete against Chinese and other companies, but the risks of this not least in terms of political rent-seeking have to be seriously considered
These are bigger issues that the UK also needs to be considering, though as they don't fall neatly on the Brexit-Remain spectrum (or even Labour-Conservative) I suspect we won't - but there are opportunities for us in or out of the EU. /end
