Right. Iraq was also a British mandate in the early 20th century. The kingdom later gained their independence.

That was the same plan for Israel. But certain leaders were unwilling to accept a Jewish state. That's what led to the war in 1948 and everything that followed.
The Arab states could have accepted the UN partition and there would have been no displacement. Palestinians Arabs would have had a state. Instead, they invaded and lost. Jordan annexed what remained of that state and Egypt took Gaza.
The history isn't as relevant because we must deal with the reality on the ground now.

But from the start, this has been about certain Arab leaders being unwilling to accept a Jewish state. Which happens to also match Tlaib's position. That has to change for peace.
