When you see a ridiculous story like this, a how to guide to reading it. 1/ cbsnews.com/news/half-of-a…
Step one: Think to yourself “that doesn’t sound quite right.”
See that it’s an small and unscientific online study conducted by some sort of media group.
Step two: Use the Google machine. Who is this media group? Oh they do PR. I wonder who their clients are? Oh. It’s a chlorine company.
So they do PR for a chlorine company. And they did a “study” about how yucky pools are and then had their “experts” tell this “journalist” how important chlorine is to combat that yucky.
And CBS wrote a news story about it like it was a real, scientific study. With no disclosures about who the folks who ran it work for.
