Obran's banning of gender studies & expulsion of Central European University has excited the right to think big: what if we get rid of the humanities altogether?

It's interesting to contemplate what would happen if the humanities were completely defunded (as some on the right want). A few canonical writers would continue to be read (Shakespeare, Austen & Dickens) but vast majority of classical canon (i.e. Horace or Pope) would disappear.
Ironically, the main effect of abolishing humanities would be disappearance of writers who are backbone of conservative thought. I mean, people will continue to read Dickens for pleasure but few will pick up Samuel Johnson or Pope or Burke unless required to do so.
