This is honestly the most 🙃 thing I have read in a while but if you really want to label China a currency manipulator you play the hands you're dealt
The funny thing is that for all the sturm und drang about labeling China a currency manipulator, iirc all the law means is that Mnuchin would get to sit down with Chinese officials and have a Very Serious Talk about their currency policy
I mean I'm sure this administration could do more under Emergency Powers etc but they don't have to go through the biannual manipulators report rigmarole for that

Can anyone point to a good piece of sociological-type writing on the Hong Kong Police Force and how/whether it's changed, especially since the 2014 Occupy protests?

I'm also reminded of this passage, from Graham Robb's "Parisians", about how the French CRS riot police became the bogeymen of the 1968 protests, and the class issues underlying much of that
There's been a lot of comment since 2014 about how the once-exalted status of the HKPF had diminished as they've ended up as "the tip of the sword" (to borrow a phrase from here: theatlantic.com/national/archi… ) in the battle over Hong Kong's status.

#Breaking - Some defense sources report #Indian air strikes across the Line of Control in Muzafarabad, #Pakistan. Indian air force briefing expected later today. Pakistan said Indian jets dropped their payloads & "fled". More confirmation of details needed.
There are also reports of dual, air and ground Indian strikes in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir. No official word yet. Waiting for updates. Stay tuned.
