I can’t imagine Trump leaving office willingly, and I suspect these “jokes” are about the fact that he can’t either.

Note the I said I can’t imagine him leaving willingly, not that I can’t imagine THAT he would leave willingly. Two different things.

When I say I can’t imagine it, I mean just that: That I can’t picture it. I can’t imagine what it would look like.

Can you picture a Trump concession speech upon losing the presidency? Can you imagine what he would say, how he would acknowledge and accept defeat?

Can you imagine a defeated Trump inviting his successor to the White House, as Obama welcomed him? Can you imagine pleasantries for the cameras?

Can you imagine the transition? The two and a half months of Trump defeated-but-not-yet-removed-from-office? What would he say? What would he do? What on earth would he tweet?

Can you imagine him attending the inauguration of his successor? Can you imagine what he’d do that night? The next day?

I can’t. I can’t imagine any of it.

And I don’t think he can either.
