THREAD -- Our full response to the JCRC's letter to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez:
The Workmen’s Circle is now, and has always been, actively committed to the fight against anti-Semitism in all of its forms.
The Workmen’s Circle is now, and has always been, actively committed to the fight against anti-Semitism in all of its forms.
We have learned, and witnessed, that you cannot effectively fight anti-Semitism without concurrently fighting racism, Islamophobia, anti-Immigrant xenophobia, and all other forms of hate. The thought patterns that breeds one form of hate, encourages and strengthens other forms.
As Jews, the images Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) Tweeted about this week, conjures up a terrible history, one that the Workmen’s Circle pledges to fight at every turn from happening again. For all of us, never again, must mean NEVER AGAIN for ANYONE.
The use of the words “concentration camp” cannot be taboo. Further, we must be free to use all language to actively fight this wrong. Never Again must now inspire rather than divide us.
To be clear. The Workmen’s Circle was not consulted about the JCRC statement attacking AOC and we, in no way, support it.
