Over complicating public policy one issue at a time. Eventually there will be a Ministry of Knife Crime with half a million employees and it will have gone from a previously unheard of problem to insoluble generational conundrum.
The first step in government failure is defining a given problem in terms that actually make it impossible to solve. Simple things are transformed into a complexity class which take exponential time to resolve or even to the point where no one know if the program will even halt.
One genius solution is to require all knives to be blunt. But Sadiq is canny enough to know even that might not work.

I mean what if they sharpen them again? Ever think of that? Better license angle grinders too.
Too many everyday things can be weaponized. For example the biggest terror attack in history, 9/11, required only box cutters. "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?" Yet we keep thinking safety lies in restricting physical objects.
