I finally understand what Labour is getting at with their "public vote" business.
They mean, a referendum in a Tory government, but no referendum in a Labour government.

DO NOT VOTE LABOUR

There's a general election coming this autumn, and Labour will not have a referendum in their manifesto.
Which means we've already won.

"God dammit, will you stop doing this. HOW have we already won?"

First of all we postulate a general election this autumn. And that means manifestos.

Labour = Labour Brexit

Brexit Party = Full fat Brexit

Lib Dem = Referendum + remain

SNP = Referendum or independence

Can you see what's missing? Of course you can. What about the Tories?

Now you've put yourself right on the nail. Because where do the Tories go?
If there's an election the Tories have to present a manifesto. And whatever they choose, referendum, no referendum, Brexit or remain, they're going to lose half their votes.

If the Tories choose Brexit, they lose a chunk of their votes to the Lib Dems.

If the Tories choose remain, they lose a chunk of their votes to the Brexit party.

And in either case the Tories lose seats. And if they lose even 1 seat Labour will form the next government.

No matter what the Tories posture about Brexit or will of the people, the only thing they are scared of is a Corbyn government.

"How scared?"

Scared enough to make sure they don't lose that election.

The Tories will do anything to prevent a Corbyn government. And it happens there is one thing they can offer. Another referendum.

Kept telling you, the whole country had the wrong end of the stick for the last two years. It's the Tories that are going to have another referendum.
Not because you wanted one, but because it's the only way to save their own skin.
