The uncomfortable truth is fascism has come to these isles. For a country that has traditionally been more receptive to ideas of racial equality, it's devastating that Parliament has abandoned progressive, inclusive politics & is about to become an illiberal democracy. 1/6
Parliament is mainstreaming 'colour-blind' forms of racism in a bid to denigrate outsiders & create the climate for nativism (our own ppl first). This has been made possible by fascist tendencies infiltrating Westminster via extreme-right electoral parties. 2/6
Fascism is not just an ideology or set of ideas. It is an attitude to human life itself. It provides a threat to social, civil & democratic rights. Human dignity will be lost alongside our rights if we don't resist illiberal democracy prevailing in Parliament. 3/6
Neoliberalism has already taken away that dignity for many working class Brits. If the left & centre of politics doesn't address that the ultra-right will, offering the 'catharis of violence'. 4/6
Anti-fascism is a political struggle about the kind of life we want to live. It's a battle for democracy, solidarity & social justice. We are now being tested about just how much we value liberal democracy over illiberal control without civil & political rights. 5/6
The hard-right is undermining multiculturalism, manipulating referendums, & using direct democracy to assert the 'tyranny of the ppl'. If we're not careful we're going to take a prolonged break from the democracy that's being hollowed-out. We must resist this, together. 6/6
