I know it can be exhausting to be a non-drinker in this world. I've literally never had any alcohol in my life, and I literally co-founded a company to push back against the dominance of alcohol in our culture.

But I was actually floored when a customer told me this story:
Time and time again I have experienced that there are people who just cannot fucking handle it if a single person in their vicinity is not drinking alcohol. It's unreal.
Feel free to share your own experiences with this! I'm down for commiseration anytime! <3
Also I hope this doesn't register as gross shilling, but I actually did co-found a company to try to fix our stupid culture. Here it is:

Quick question! Is adding alcohol to someone's drink without their consent actually illegal? I am trying to find an applicable law. This is all I can find:

laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/…
“Everyone who administers or causes to be administered to any person or causes any person to take poison or any other destructive or noxious thing is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fourteen years, [ ... ]
[ ... ] if he intends thereby to endanger the life of or to cause bodily harm to that person; or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, if he intends thereby to aggrieve or annoy that person.”
I personally think alcohol is a "destructive and noxious thing", but I'm not sure if the law agrees with me. Alcohol is legal and in fact sold by the government or whatever.
So if that law wouldn't apply, what law would?
GREAT NEWS alcohol can be considered a noxious substance. (Obviously it is not great news that this happened. I'm not gonna link to the whole story because it's too grim.)
