I've looked at all the recent CVS news and am not seeing a good reason to be concerned. Subscription service Pill Club seems to be using one particular CVS PAC donation as leverage in a contract dispute w/ CVS. That PAC is controlled by employees not the company or its leaders.
I mean, it speaks to the toxicity of the Trump administration that even an employee PAC that gives fairly evenly across the aisle can be implicated, but I honestly think Pill Club is just trying to piggyback on the legitimate SoulCycle outrage in order to get a better rate here.
Target has taken a firm anti-gun violence stance but its corporate PAC has given to congresspeople w/ A ratings from the NRA. (It gives across the aisle.... )
CVS CEO's political donations lean GOP, but I don't see any Trump in there (smart of him.) This all speaks to how complex it can be to make good consumer decisions. How do we spend in alignment w/ our values when companies are so often controlled by those trying to suppress us?
And with birth control or other Rx, it's not like you can say "shop small." We really need centralized resources to understand the complex ethical and political profiles of all big companies (workin' on it) and the significance of diff. types of political activity on their part.
Side note: CEO of Pill Club is a man and so, it appears, is much of sr. staff & investors. Probably lowest cost option for consumers would come from CVS acquiring PC or buying something similar. (and that may even be Nick Chang's goal.)
Final thought: some smart people have expressed concerns re cost of birth control rising over CVS/Pill Club dispute & that IS a concern. But not a boycott-able one in my opinion. After all, services like Pill Pack weren't even around ~5 yrs ago. Open to your thoughts on this one!
