A gentle reminder to my American media and academic colleagues: The histories / sociologies of race, racial formation and racism are different in Canada than they are in the United States. Please cover Trudeau's #brownface by inviting Canadian colleagues to share their knowledge.
Also a note of caution: It's election season up in Canada. As you interview and quote twitter reactions from Canadian pundits and politicians, do your due diligence. Ask yourself if their concern about racial justice and representation is sudden and strategic or longstanding.
Finally, please evaluate Trudeau's #brownface episode in relation to the actual practices and policies impacting race/racism/race relations of the Liberal Party of Canada vs. those of other Canadian political parties. Historical and sociological context is everything here.
