I assume that this was just a bit of fun... but the article, and the responses on here, show the huge problem any 'GNU' initiative faces. Short thread. 1/
It simply isn't credible to seek to gather disparate MPs together (ignoring the main party leaders), to cobble together a majority, and to seek - legitimately - to settle Brexit. 2/
Think of the reaction of the c 40% of the electorate supporting Con/BP when they are faced with this GNU, and with the prospect of a WA v remain PV. It will (with justification) all be said to be an establishment stitch-up. 3/
If the GNU won't fly, we seem sure to be facing a GE in November/December. Opposition parties need to have their focus squarely on denying Johnson the majority he craves. 4/
Yes... their Brexit policies are different, but they all favour either a soft Brexit or a remain outcome. If they manage to win the (high-stakes) GE, they will have a mandate to settle Brexit. But unless and until they win the GE, they do not. 5/5
