There two main mistakes rages on in the media and articulated by many political figures and analysts which would eventually mislead the reading of geopolitical consequences of Turkey’s #OperationPeaceSpring as it did during #OperationOliveBranch
1) the equation of YPG to the entire Kurdish community and overcasting YPG-PKK ties: YPG is an overwhelmingly controversial group and has a bad recent past in it treatment to the peoples living in the region. So the population is suspected to come to their help
2) claiming the massacre of Kurds is underway: this was the same rhetoric employed during #OperationOliveBranch but check this:
According to HRW
- The number of civilian casualties in Afrin operation:26 (number of Turkish casualties 51)
and COMPARE this with those numbers by HRW:
- The number of civilian casualties in US-led coalition ops as of July 2019: ~7000 (coalition says nearly 2000)
According to Turkish MoD 260K refugees have returned to #OperationEuphratesShield area freed from ISIS
Has anyone heard return of any refugees to Tal Abyad, Ras Al Ayn in last 4 years?
Beware: when the record is not straight the geopolitical analysis comes shockingly wrong
Last one: Turkey is hosting 4 milion refugees while US has curtailed its refugee admission down to 10K. Europe is asking Ankara to hold those refugees there. 4 million civilians are sitting ducks in Idlib Turkey is sole protector. None of those resonate in media as it should
