Burying the lede? This is a strong statement on election interference and naming names -- Russia, etc -- is noteworthy. It does not touch on the real concern of disinformation (hello Facebook). But there is a new point here that shouldn't be lost 1/
If you were Russia, and you wanted to disrupt voting, truly disrupt it, you could try to get into voting machines or you could try to suppress the vote. How do you win Michigan for Trump? Suppress African-American votes in Detroit the day of. And how do you do that? 2/
Fake news about an active shooter; get into an area electrical grid and turn it off; disrupt traffic through signal disruption; etc. I'm not giving away secrets here. We've gamed this out. They've gamed this out. And many localities are planning contingencies around this. 3/
So this line stands out -- "Adversaries may try to accomplish their goals (by) conducting disruptive or destructive cyberattacks on state and local infrastructure" -- and is NOT focused solely on election or electoral machines. 4/
It is about the apparatus that supports it, that makes it run. Just something to keep an eye on as it seems the US is as well. And I don't mean to be buzzkill on night most of my feed seems to be happy about. I'm just nervous about this Celtics game and deflecting 5/5 @celtics
@celtics Addendum: We won. Barely. @celtics
