No obvious way to check paper trays are loaded with blank paper. Every polling place contains a dozen or more of these puppies. Tens of thousands of unhardened, uncertified Best Buy quality devices to be managed by a part time IT staff. Maybe low bidder wasn’t best idea.
And (in case it’s not obvious) printing the ballot to be counted is the most critical part of the voting process. It creates the only durable record of voter intent. It’s the unlocked front door that an attacker will try first. You don’t even need to touch the #BMDs to cheat.
