1. In a mainly free market economy the any government has very little control over the economy.
2. Give any large company money and they will do whatever is in their best interest. #freemarket
3. No politician has control of commodity prices no matter how many times they say it.

(I think we should disqualify anyone from running who makes such specious claims.)
4. This downgrade is the official statement from the institutional investment community that Alberta is not... a good investment.

If you will review my earlier tweets: fanning separatist flames (Albertastan anyone?), and dictatorial government behavior both discourage institutional investment. And, they are two things that are in JK's control. #owthathurts

Back to pensions: From the GOA summary of the ATRF pension hijack (approved by some guy named Peter Milburn who does not even live here, never mind work for GOA) #fail #peterprinciple I quote this canard...

"Government is ultimately liable for the risk of the plan and has a vested interest in ensuring the long term stability and health of the plan."
Bullshit.
They have confused ATRF with plans that are not jointly sponsored.

If this is the case, I want it in writing. Because in 1992 the guarantee the GOA had to teachers' pensions was removed in exchange for the GOA resuming their funding obligation. That sentence should read that the GOA and the ATA are jointly responsible for the risk of the plan.

Which is why it is unconscionable that they made arbitrary decisions. (The other plans like LAPP are having joint sponsorship impaired, in the process GOA is picking up way more risk.) But, I guess you can't expect Peter or his good friend Athana to understand this.
